British Kings of Basketball

Picture
Brian, first and formost you've just won the British Basketball League with the Eagles, how do you now set your standards for next season?

The Eagles have been setting the standards for the past 5 years or so on and off the court, there is no way Fab would let that slip. Any good team can win a league, great teams defend their titles.

Where do you see British Basketball in 10 years time? we all know the sport is growing and the Eagles have some excellent links with univerisities, but how do you see the sport growing?

I would look more at the hoops for health programme which has been so successful in Newcastle, hopefully that can produce a generation of excellent players.

With a sport like Basketball, training and pre competition is very important. You're mental state is key. What sort of methods do you have to getting in the right state of mind and do you have any supersititions?

I like to try and do things the same way so I always feel comfortable but so long as you are prepared all you can do is give your best.

When you're not training or competiting, what sort of things do you like to get up to, do you play any other sports?

I am a Man United fanatic I always watch their games on TV and try and get to as many games as I can.

What are you’re ambitions apart from Basketball, are you looking for a career in something else after you've finished playing?

I work as well as playing basketball I am a fully qualified Optometrist. I want to pursue a career in laser eye surgery.

When it comes to music, what sort of music do you listen to when training ?

Mostly dance and hip hop but a bit of anything. Has to have a beat if I'm listening to it when training!

What was the last concert/festival u went to?

I'm not a big concert or festival person, in fact I have never been to a festival! I think the last gig I went to was Faithless.

If you could meet one musician, who would it be and why?

Maxi Jazz from faithless, the man is incredible!

Finally, you've won various awards throughout your career, what is your goal when it comes to basketball and how far do you think you could make it?

Untimately my aim would be to play more in the BBL and not be a bit part player. I always give my best and I hope that is good enough!

James Dasaolu on Athletics

James, first and formost you're currently ranked joint 2nd in the european rankings for 100m, is you're target at the moment just to preparing yourself for the Commenwealth Games next year or whats next for you?  i make my target one season at a time time, my target this season is u23 European championship and the world championships 2009. Commonwheath and European is at the back of the mind, they are not the primary goals.

Every athlete wants to represent their country in the Olympics, but is it finally sinking home that 2012 could be the year and for it to be in the UK, it couldn't be better right? From the first time i started track, my goal was always to compete for my country at the Olympics. 2012 make it even more special. Now every season it looking more and more likely.

With a sport like 100m sprinting, training and pre competition is very important. You're mental state is key. What sort of methods do you have to getting in the right state of mind and do you have any supersititions?  i am a religious person (Christian), so i found praying and reading the bible helps.

When you're not training or competiting, what sort of things do you like to get up to, do you play any other sports? ps3 xbox playing street fighter and pro evo soccer. hanging with my mates

What are you’re ambitions after sport or what do you think you would be doing, if you weren't an athelte?  I have not thought that far, but i would like to stay in the sport maye become a coach.

When it comes to music, what sort of music do you listen to when training ? gospel and a bit of funky house

What was the last concert/festival u went to? Soul Central

Finally, iv read that you're are student at Loughborough University, how do you find keeping up with your studies as well as training and competiting? Studying at loughborough allows my studies to be based around my training, the uni is very supportive of athletes that study and train and they try their the best to help the situation. Everything is based on site so it is easy to get from the track straight into lectures.

Best of luck with the Commenwealth, Olympics and European.
